Continents-The new answer to Awesome!

We at teatopia are all about supporting local music, especially if its AWESOME local talent. so we had to catch up with these boys. Continents have only been around for 1 year but by god it doesn’t sound like it.we caught up with Tom the guitarist from theband and asked him the usual teatopian questions.enjoy…

Who are Continents?

Continents are a five piece, umm, well I’m not sure what genre we are really but we’re a band from South Wales. We were once pigeon holed by an online magazine as “aggrometal” which I’ve since found out is the same as Nu-Metal and we’re all huge Limp Bizkit fans so I guess we’ll roll with that (no pun intended)

Who or what inspires you?

Well musically we all draw inspiration from different places, Darryl loves his more techy stuff like Veil Of Maya and Volumes, Phil loves older hardcore like Strife and Terror, Dom’s into newer stuff like The Ghost Inside and Mychildren Mybride, Ken likes metal like Feed The Rhino as well as some weirder stuff like Cloudkicker and I like a bit of a variety, anything from The Plot In You and Bury Your Dead to Circa Survive and PMToday.

What sets you apart from the rest?

Fantastic hair? Nah that’s not true, though I wish it were. I don’t know man, that’s a hard question to answer ‘cause I always feel like it’s saying “Why are you better than anyone else?” and truth is we’re not, but I guess we’re different because we don’t like tying ourselves down to one scene. We’ve shared the stage with bands from hardcore legends First Blood and Metalcore heavyweights Awaken Demons, and we know we’re not gonna be to everyone’s taste but at the same time I think people respect you if you can get up in that kinda situation and still give it 110%

Do you have a favourite song you have made?

Personally as soon as we write a new song it usually becomes my favourite, I’m not sure whether that’s because it’s new and shiny and exciting or just because we try and push ourselves to write the best music we can every time; but at the minute it’s a song called “The Incredible Misfortune of Mr. Peter File”, it’s the newest song that we’ve added to our live set and it’s a bit more mature than some of our other stuff so yeah, that’d have to be my favourite.

Where do you see yourselves in 15years?

Still owning kids on online pool? Haha. Band wise I have no idea, I’m not even sure where we’re gonna be in 15 days, the scene changes so quickly and there’s so talent out there that it’s really a case of step up your game and keep giving it everything or be left behind, quickly.

Animals or humans?

I’d love to say animals but I don’t really have the best track record when it comes to them haha. I once killed 500 tropical fish because I put fairy liquid in the tank. In my defence I was 6 and I was using my naive initiative to help my mum “clean the tank”, but yeah, I do like pets and since working in retail the general population infuriate me so I guess despite my troubled past I’d have to go with animals.

Your mam said you can have a tea party, but you can only invite 5 people. Who do you choose? (they can be dead or alive).

Oh man so much choice! Well the first invite sent out would definitely be Samuel L. Jackson, coolest man alive. Then I suppose I’d invite David Bowie because he’s just incredible, Matt Bruso because I met him last night and he’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever talked to, a genuine dude. Then to stop it being a total sausage fest I’d invite Dessa, an American rapper that I absolutely love, actually could I invite the Doomtree Crew as one person? I mean you wouldn’t just invite Cory Taylor would you? You’d have the full 9 around for tea like, so yeah, Doomtree are coming for tea; and then last but not least Stewart Lee because he’d sit there hating everything and making dry, satirical comments all night and I’d love it haha.

What’s your all time favourite word?

Pulchritudinous – because no one knows what it means, it sounds like a disease or an insult and it you sound completely ridiculous when saying it in a sentence.

Whats on the horizon for 2011??

Well we have the video coming out in a week which we’re all super excited for, it’s been a long time coming. Then I think we’re just gigging and writing for the rest of the year, we’re looking to have our next record finished before the year is out and we’re already well into the writing and demoing process. So yeah, check us out at http://facebook.com/continentsband and see if we’re coming to a city near you, then come mosh, it’ll be fun. I promise.

Check out their new video here, its gonna be a big summer/autumn/winter/all the fucking time for these guys!
