Let’s GO

So if your hitting Cardiff town on the 11th March make sure you check out Clwb Ifor Bach for the release show of Solutions 17 track album, entitled ’ the first two years’. Its a collection of old and unreleased material from……their first 2 years.  So Tea HQ decided to hit the band with our questions to find out what makes Solutions tick…..or tock??

TT: Who are Solutions?   Nicky Williams, Rhys Pearce, Andrew ‘Eddie’ Edwards, Robin Williams.

TT: Who or what inspires you?

Rhys: Honest and genuine people.

Robin: Family and Friends, 2010 was a hard year for my family…and to see them all come through it without complaining…that’s pretty inspiring.

Eddie: Family and true Friends, 2010 was a hard year for my family along with Robins, but you need to get on with what ever life throws at you, no matter how hard or harsh it may be.

Nicky: Strict deadlines and long Indian summers

TT: What sets you apart from the rest?

Rhys: My ability to ramble on about Gus Van Sant movies and how great a certain camera shot was… I did it again!

Robin: I would say our diverse musical influences, we all have our own particular tastes in music which combine well and show variation in our own material.

Eddie: Personally, for me its not following the “scene” like most people tend to do, we all have differences in music and are all influenced by different bands and artists, so theres four different opinions on how things should go.

Nicky: “We are nothing more than all the things that came before, we’re just playing it by ear”- J Church. Absolutely nothing, then.

TT: Do you have a favourite song that you recorded over the past 2 years?

Rhys: We wrote this song called ‘Blank Cities’ for our new record, I really like that one.

Robin: Would probably have to be ‘Sons of Daughters’ and ‘Mexican Waves’, Both of which I got to really play around with drums-wise.

Eddie: Well having only been part of Solutions for under a year, I would say lake palmer off our next album

Nicky: Fighting Tigers.

TT: Favourite song to play live?

Rhys: I would have to say ‘Lake Palmer’. It’s just a great riff orientated rock song.

Robin: Mexican Waves, mainly because I start it ;)

Eddie: I love ‘Lake Palmer’, if you’ve seen us live you’ll know its an all out ear raper of a song and no doubt there will be more of them to come

Nicky: The first song of every set, whatever that may be.

TT: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Rhys: Roaming the land with a double barrel shot gun, saving innocent ladies from zombies.

Robin: Hopefully on the other side of the world with my best friends (solutions.) still playing and doing the only thing I’ve ever been good at!

Eddie: Still doing the only thing I’ve ever been good at and thats music, no doubt about that

Nicky: In the throes of a mental and physical breakdown brought on by SAD and chronic gout, heavily reliant on prescription medication, freeview and age reversal products to get me through the bitter and lonely days spent wishing I would have poured all my earlier efforts in life to becoming a self-sufficient man of an honest trade, rather than pissing thousands of hours and shocking amounts of money up a wall thinking I could be the next Tinnie Tempah.

TT: In the Uber competitive world of music, what will be your approach for 2011?

Rhys: Just let the music speak for itself and if people like it, that’s even better!

Robin: Release a record which will make people HAVE to stop what they’re doing and have a listen, whether they like us or not. To make even the strongest critic ponder “Well, this has something!”

Eddie: Play every gig we can, be trend setters and go getters, not bandwagon jumpers and scenesters

Nicky: Our approach will be to be as non-competitive as physically possible. If you’re that good then there’s no need to keep it in anyone’s face. No one likes a try hard.

TT: Animals or humans?

Rhys: Im gonna say Animals. In a fist fight, there’s no way your gonna beat a shark.

Robin: A hybrid, like a faun

Eddie: Humans

Nicky: Neither, to be honest, they both deserve everything they get. Though I do slightly prefer the taste of animals to that of humans.

TT: Your Mum said you can have a tea party, but you can only invite 5 people. Who would you choose?

Rhys: Kerry Katona, Katie Price, Peaches Geldof, Jack Whitehall & Bill Murray

Robin: Lips (Anvil), Rob (Anvil),Joe Strummer,Mike Schank (American Movie) And as my Mum is hosting it I’d let her choose someone too, I’d imagine that would be Aaron Neville or something.

Eddie: kurt Cobain, John carpenter, Richy edwards, Robert Englund, Zach Galifianakis

Nicky: I would invite my legal representative, a social worker, my heavily disabled brother and our current foster parents, I’d sit my mother down and ask her if she feels any remorse over the fact that my father committed suicide in front of my brother and I shortly after she abandoned us all for a new life in the Algarve in 1995.

TT: What would you feed each guest?

Rhys: I would feed everyone poison, apart from Bill Murray…whom I would serve the Blanquette de veau and a bottle of Dom Perignon 1962

Robin: Lips + Rob = ‘Frickin’ Goulash’, Joe Strummer = ‘Koka kola’, Mike Schank = ‘Vodka’, Mum’s choice = Toffee

Eddie: A boatload of cake and desperados

Nicky: Their own lies.

TT: What’s your all time favourite word?

Rhys: Crayon

Robin: Over-Zealous

Eddie: Probably a nice clean word like, FUCK!

Nicky: Mercy

Hate washing? Love Droneboy Laundry

Boys and Girls welcome to the world of Droneboy Laundry and its exceptional designs you are all gonna want to wear.  Music, film and animation inspired tees that are just what you need to spend all that hard earned cash on…..in fact I think I’m gonna buy one now.  So check out our little interview with the brains behind the magic. enjoy

TTM: Who is Droneboy Laundry?

DroneBoy Laundry is the spirit of rebellion trapped inside a traffic cone, teaching that rebellion doesn’t have to come from anger or frustration but can originate from fun and unity.  He’s an ambassador of creativity and finding your own path, but his story is born of dissatisfaction and suppression in grey Britain and one day as a human he broke.  He has a full backstory that you can find in the about section on the DroneBoy site.

TTM: Who or what inspires you?

I mainly get inspired when i’m reading a book or listening to music and it happens when you least expect it, i’m so bad at trying to force it, reading things that are supposed to inspire but it mainly comes out of the blue.  It can take as little as one word for me to be inspired, then try and think of the best way to get across the meaning on a t-shirt with a limited palette of colours (I mainly work in monochrome).

TTM: What sets you apart from the rest?

Its hard to pick out what makes you stand out from the rest, as other brands constantly inspire and kick me up the arse.  I guess if you make the product the best it can be quality and cut wise then you hope people tap into your energy and your message and see that you have put your heart and soul into the project.

TTM: Do you have a favourite design?

I guess the fact that looking at my logo still inspires me to give the character a voice and create a world in which he thrives.  It’s the starting point of all the designs, so would be hard to pick anything else, as all the other designs have all been completed and I hope I improve on the next one.

TTM: Where do you see yourself in 15years?

There are two destinations, either you make it or you don’t, I don’t want to dwell on the not making it, so that just leaves making it.  I hope I have taken the brand across the world, toeing the line between credible and mainstream, supplying homegrown clothing boutiques with a credible street-wear brand from Wales, creating a cut and sew line that is not governed by seasons, having a DroneBoy Laundry store in Cardiff and have a place locally where people can exercise their creativity in the fields of art and music.

TTM: What’s your life goal?

To lie on my deathbed and be proud of my life, having more cherished memories than regrets, a bit morbid, but to know I can leave earth in peace.

TTM: Animals or humans?

I can’t live my life without either, I have hope that humans are naturally good and that you have to have a major trauma to change bad, its just a shame the good ones are the ones with the quieter voice, people shouldn’t believe whipped up media story’s that you can’t leave your house etc and animals remind you of innocence and how simple life can be, i’m mainly talking about pets etc haha I doubt i’d have this view if I owned a crocodile, but there you go.

TTM: Your mum said you can have a tea party, but you can only invite 5 people. Who do you choose? (they can be dead or alive).

Roald Dahl, Dr Suess, Deepak Chopra, Nigo (a Bathing Ape), Zizek.

TTM: What would you feed each guest?

It wouldn’t be a meal that catered for each individual, it would be like a birthday party spread, one that you dreamed of as a kid, rabbit shaped jelly, Jaffa Cake trees, every flavour milkshake, like it was produced by Willy Wonka, the Mad Hatter and Heston Blumenthal.

TTM: What’s your all time favourite word?

Coagulate - I don’t even know why, for a while I didn’t even know the meaning it just sounded good in sentences, luckily for me most people I used it on didn’t know the meaning and if you’re reading this don’t bother finding out, as it boring, I just urge you to use it where you see fit in your next conversation with someone.

TTM: We all know its an insanly competitive world out there so whats in
store for fans of your clothing label in 2011 and how are you keeping things
fresh??

Ready for this clique, at the moment i’m taking everyday as it comes.  There are some exciting projects in the pipeline and things that are almost off the ground but I have gone quite far with projects in the past that have broken down towards the end so I don’t want to jinx them.  My main aim for 2011 is too produce something creative, thats for sale at least once a month, at the moment we are so small that we aren’t governed by seasons and creating collections yet so i’m just enjoying individual projects and designs.

TTM: We noticed u work with various bands etc….who else you been working with and who you got commin??
I love working with bands and people who are up and coming, the project with the Astroid Boys has been amazing, you go to meetings with them and you come out like you’ve just seen the best action film ever, they have so much drive and enthusiasm and it’s really easy to tap into their vision.  Its harder working with those who have made it as that energy has somehow slowed down and dispirited.  I have just completed a project with local charity ‘Safe Foundation’ we are aiming to create enough funding to supply a teacher for a school in either India or Cambodia for a year, we have produced a limited edition tee of 52 and the idea is the money raised by each t-shirt will fund a teacher for a week and therefore supply a teacher for a whole year. I’m really excited about this project and if this goes well I hope we can form a partnership where-by we have two creative projects a year to help their varying appeals.  I try not to take on too many side projects though as i’m so easily distracted and have to remember i’m still at the start of my own project, otherwise i’d be an Astroid Boy by now and my rapping is appalling.

Stay tuned to www.droneboylaundry.com and send me emails that say hello.

M J Fox never looked better

Amazing artwork that just wants to jump out and punch you in the face from artist Rich Pellegrino. This guys work caught our eye when we spotted Marty McFly from Back to the Future along with Doc Brown (see below) and we wanted to know more about him. So we sent our Teatopian questions over via the magicweb and we got this for you………..enjoy

TT: So who is Rich Pellegrino?
It’s a long story… Basically, it’s my middle name and favorite bottled water.  My first name is too strange.  I had hippie parents that took too much of the brown acid.

TT: Who or what inspires your artwork?
Lately, I’ve been fortunate to be a part of a number of group shows that focus on recent pop culture.   It’s been a mix of cult films to famous comedians.   I’m a child of the 80’s so I’ve been relieving the enjoyment I had as a kid by paying homage to some of the things I grew up loving.  Inspiration comes from a lot of places.  One being that 9-5 jobs suck.

With my personal work the inspiration varies.  For the past two and a half years it’s been a good looking girl named Kristina.

TT: What do feel sets you apart from the rest?
I’ll let others figure out that stuff.  I’m just trying to make what I want to make.  Thankfully, I’ve been given the chance to.  If that doesn’t work then the money I’ve been paying people off with should do the trick.

TT:Do you have a favourite piece you have created over the years?
I made a portrait of my Grandmother and late Grandfather as a Christmas gift for my Grandma.  It had been a few years since he passed away.  Giving it to her was a special moment I’ll take with me to my grave.
Usually, it’s whatever I’m working on at the moment.  I tend to get over them fairly quickly.  That doesn’t mean I don’t like them though.  I just can’t stand the sight of them as soon as they’re finished.

TT: What are you currently setting out to achieve work wise?
Currently, I am working non stop to meet a few deadlines creeping around the corner.  Once I’m over the hump I have big plans to take a day off. Maybe a day and a half.  I also plan on shaving then too.  Then I want finish work on a handful of large figurative works.  They are very different from my current work.  There is a very clear vision with these and they need proper attention to be done right.  After that I plan on having enough money from their sales to buy a private jet.

TT: What’s your life goal?
That’s a loaded question.  I’ve got a few of course.  First to mind is to be able to provide for a family with my art.  They would be my family of course.   Next is to be able to play the ending theme song for the original GIJOE cartoon better.  I’ve wasted too much time figuring this one out not to. Maybe hire assistants to paint my work for me while I get fat eating cheesburgers and chilifries.  Then I’d sign my name and call it finished.

TT: Your mum said you can have a tea party, but you can only invite 5 people. Who do you choose? (they can be dead or alive).
Of course Jimi, my best friend Matthew from elementary school who died at 13, George Orwell, Van Gough (seems like an interesting cat), and Steven Hawking.  If one couldn’t make it then Bob Dylan.  Only if he gave honest answers.

TT: What would you feed each guest?
If I’m making the food then Smart Start cereal with fresh blueberries and french press Jamaican Blue Mountain roast coffee (I got one for Christmas and well, I really really like coffee). Depending on the day I could do extra virgin cold pressed olive oil fried over easy eggs.  I make damn good eggs.  This group of people sitting together having cereal and coffee is my utopia.

TT: What’s your all time favourite word?
Douchebag.

An amazin take on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  love it

We want one…..

Hitting the web last year with slick tees for both guys and gals Thoraxx Apparel look set to continue strong into 2011 and beyond. We hooked up with the clothing label for an insight on whats going down and ask a few questions….

TT: Who is Thoraxx Apparel?

Thoraxx Apparel is an independent clothing brand based in South East England. We’ve been breaking fashion’s worthless boundaries since 2010.

TT: Who or what inspires you?

Well we love people that really care about us and our brand, the kind of people that spread the word, by mouth and online, and stick stickers everywhere for us. It means so much, so thanks again guys!

TT: What sets you apart from the rest?

We’re fed up of seeing the same old shit being printed by these so called ‘clothing brands’, copying the likes of Drop Dead and Johnny Cupcakes. Although all of our tees are experimental and individual design-wise, a Thoraxx Apparel tee is almost instantly recognisable.

TT: Do you have a favourite design?

We have a couple of new designs coming really really soon which you guys should love (we hope). They’re both photographic tees and look awesome.

TT:  What’s your overall life goal?

To make Thoraxx Apparel a world renowned brand selling branch all sorts of buff clothing, footwear and accessories.

TT: Your mum said you can have a tea party, but you can only invite 5
people. Who do you choose? (they can be dead or alive).

Tom Delonge, Barack Obama, Jimi Hendrix, Isaac Newton, William Shakespeare.

TT: What would you feed each guest?

We’d probably have a barbecue, after all who doesn’t like a barbecue.

TT: What’s your all time favourite word?

Ha, I’ve never really thought about it… ‘Thoraxx’? I’d be pretty happy if I could get it into the dictionary or something, that would be sick.

TT:  Finally we all know its an insanly competitive world out there so whats in
store for fans of your clothing label in 2011…?? And how are you keeping
things fresh?

Well, as i said earlier, we have a couple of new designs waiting for release that we’re stoked about and we’re currently finishing off our brand new website which is most certainly keeping things fresh, check it out: www.thoraxxapparel.com

It’s still under construction though, but we already have loads of stuff up on there, including free wallpapers and music available to download from the bands we endorse. Also, this month we have a photo shoot planned with some very hot models, so we’re pretty hyped for that. Those photos will be up on the new site shortly, so keep an eye out. If you guys want to get your hands on some tees, visit http://store.thoraxxapparel.comOh and don’t forget to go to www.facebook.com/thoraxxapparel become a fan and spread the love.

Hillbillies…..Beards……and Bad Bromance  POW

Free…..Legal…..Skint

Skint Music Downloads began as a trial page on blogger in mid 2010, and then was re-launched onto Tumblr in December 2010. These guys have produced a slick free music hosting site, which is completely legal and a great way of downloading awesome bands like Funeral for a Friend, Town and Young Guns. TT HQ wanted to know a little more and find out what the future holds for Skint Music Download….

TT:      What is skint music downloads?

Skint Music Downloads is a website where anyone can download music from well known and new artists, all for free, and all legal! We collect music from artists who are already giving it away for free themselves and link to their download pages, as well as releasing exclusive downloads from artists who are in contact with us.

TT:       Who or what inspires you?

We are inspired by the passion of independent music and the joy it brings people both enjoying it live and listening through their mp3 player. A song can change a person’s mood and even change their life, hopefully for the best, so the idea that we are allowing people to listen to new artists free and easily is exciting and worth doing!

It also really helps new artists get known easier as it cuts straight to the main form of music promotion, the music itself.

TT:       What sets you apart from the rest?

What sets us apart is that a site like this hasn’t really been done before, especially in a legal capacity. There are so many blogs which offer up illegal downloads in the same way we offer our music, and so many people are downloading from them. The only difference with us is that we are offering the music that the artists are happy to give out freely, and so if people are given enough free music that is legal then hopefully they will choose to support their favourite artists in another way.

TT:      Do you have a favourite piece?

We often like every bit of music we post on the blog, and are quite open minded with different genres which wish to take part in the blog. The only thing we ask is that the recordings are of good quality in mp3 format, as with a lot of online music it can often be quite low quality so therefore it never sounds as good as it should be intended.

TT:      Where do you see yourself in 15years?

Fifteen years is quite a long time to be honest, but I would definitely love this project to be still ongoing in a major form, hoping that it has made a difference in all that time!

TT:       What’s your life goal?

My own life goal is to play a major part in re-establishing the music industry into a format where it is accepted by both the artists and the listeners. As well as maybe owning a pretty sweet music venue, maybe haha.

TT:     Animals or humans?

I’m vegetarian, but to be honest I have a lot more human friends, so humans!

TT:      Your mum said you can have a tea party, but you can only invite 5 people. Who do you choose? (they can be dead or alive).

Trent Reznor, Greg Puciato, John Peel, Edgar Allen Poe, & Tim Burton. Would be interesting!

TT:      What would you feed each guest?

Everyone likes cookies, and we would have a lot to talk about so a full meal might be too much.

TT:    What’s your all time favourite word?

Skint. Surely?

TT:    Finally what’s the plan for 2011??

Hopefully to get our site some really good recognition, with as many downloads as possible and just people loving its existence really!

To download free & legal music or even to apply to be featured, head to: www.skintmusicdownloads.co.uk

Douchebag.
